Course Structure

The course is part-time, taught in both Chinese and English, and the learning methods include course learning, practical teaching, overseas exchange, academic research, thesis writing, etc. During the study period, students are required to complete relevant core courses and elective courses and academic research training, carry out research on business, technology, finance and industry frontier issues, complete the thesis and defense. Course credits are arranged as follows:

Coursework (27 credits, core courses + elective courses + residential workshop).

Research work and dissertation (32 credits).

Tutor selection

At the end of the first academic year, a dissertation supervisor or co-supervisor is assigned. According to the principle of two-way selection, the tutor is selected. The academic tutor is a professor from the HKUST Business School, and the science and technology tutor is served by scientists from the relevant fields of the HKUST and Tsinghua University.

Research Proposal and Research Proposal (2 credits)

In the second year, a topic selection report and research proposal are required. The research proposal should be written in English, and the defense can be conducted in Chinese or English.

Research Work and Research Achievement Defense (30 credits)

DBA dissertation research totals 30 credits. Students are required to submit a research proposal and research proposal in the second year and pass the qualifying examination to enter the thesis writing and research stage. The thesis should be written in English, and the defense can be conducted in Chinese or English.

Mode of delivery

Classes will be held on the campus of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the PBC School of Tsinghua University. Six study modules are planned for each academic year, each of which usually lasts four days (usually Thursday to Sunday). Some course schedules may vary depending on the elective course.

Courses are taught in Chinese or English, taught in Mandarin or English with Mandarin translation.
